Dynamics of volcanic eruptions and related wave phenomena are my main research interests. Volcanic eruptions are regarded as thermofluid processes, but magma has both solid and fluid natures. While ductile deformation of solid rock is an important topic in the solid earth science, brittle response of fluid is important in volcanology. I am approaching the problem by theoretical considerations and laboratory experiments. Another research topic is seismic and acoustic waves from volcanoes. Although we get many information from hearing in daily life, our listening comprehension of volcanic sound is yet undeveloped. We try understanding the meaning of volcanic sound by comparing seismic and acoustic signals recorded at volcanoes and waves generated in the laboratory.
