研究内容

火山の噴火機構や,それに伴う波動現象について,研究をしています.火山噴火は,基本的には熱流体力学現象ですが,マグマには流体と固体の間を遷移する性質があります.「固体の流動」は,マントル対流など固体地球科学の重要課題のひとつですが,火山では,「流体の破壊」が問題となります.その実体について,理論,実験をもとに研究を行って来ました.また,活動的な火山では,多様な振動現象が地震や空振(音波)として観測されます.私たちは,日常生活において,音に含まれる様々な情報を聞きとっていますが,火山の音に対するヒヤリング能力はまだ高くありません.フィールドで火山の音を観測しつつ,実験室の中でいろいろな音を作って,火山の音の意味を理解しようと試みています.
