研究内容

地下の温度構造を推定するには、地表面から流出する熱量(地殻熱流量)を知ることが必要である。海域を中心とした熱流量測定と数値モデリングによって地下温度構造を求める研究を行っており、現在は主に、南海トラフや日本海溝に沿った沈み込み境界を対象としている。これらの海域では、海溝付近の熱流量分布が、沈み込むプレートの地殻構造や地殻内での流体流動と密接に関係することが明らかになってきた。この関係の成因と、それがプレート境界での地震発生過程にどのように結びつくかを調べるため,より詳しい観測やモデリングを実施している。その他、海底堆積物中での長期温度計測により海底下からの湧水を調べる研究、掘削孔内での温度計測により断層運動の熱的影響や、過去の地表面温度変動を解析する研究なども行っている。
