Earthquake Prediction Research Committee and Coordinating Committee

The national earthquake prediction program titled the Second new Program of Research and Observation for Earthquake Predictionn started in April 2004. The aim of this program is to develop the simulation model for reconstructing crustal movements and improving the accuracy of the model based on the detailed knowledge of observation studies on activity of earthhs crust. The Earthquake Prediction Research Committee (EPRC) was established at ERI in order to promote and coordinate the earthquake prediction research efforts among Japanese universities. The EPRC includes the coordinating committee and eight Program Promotion Panels. The coordinating committee presides at workshops and symposia to oversight the research progress. The achievements of the research projects are to be discussed in the end-year symposium, and the results are published in an annual report. The coordinating committee arranges the research program for the next year, and presents them through the web page of ERI.
