Miyakejima Volcano (July 20, 2000)

Photos of collapse crater, the floor continuously subsided.

Photos taken by S. Nakada.

Bottom of the collapsed crater. A black-colored mound on the bottom may be a pyroclastic cone of phreatic eruptions during 14-15 July.

The collapsed crater was deepened during the 14-15 July eruption events. The depth reaches approximately 400 m (much larger than the depth of the 8 July event--about 200 m), and the total volume of collapse reaches about 0.2 cubic kilometers. On the other hand, the volume of eruption products may be as small as 10 million cubic meters.
