Seminar

Friday Seminar (Mar. 1st, 2019) by Assis. Prof. R. Nishiyama (Division of Monitoring Geoscience)

Gravity and muography measurements have been performed in volcanic regions as they have potential for detecting movement of mass associated with ascending or descending of magma. In this seminar, I introduce some case studies of such measurements where the survey targets are (1) lava dome (Mt. Showa-Shinzan, Hokkaido, Japan) and (2) alpine glacier (Aletsch glacier, Switzerland). Though these examples, I would discuss the problems and prospects of these technologies regarding detection of magma movement.
