Self Introduction

My name is David Baratoux. My research interests concern the study of impact craters and volcanic landforms on planetary surfaces (Mars and the Earth). I am an assistant professor in the University of Toulouse (south of France). Most of my lectures concern the formation and evolution of the solar system with a focus on solid bodies. The purpose of this visit if to achieve a thermal survey of Ohshima volcano in order to understand the influence of the lithology and surface temperature in order to improve the interpretation of satellite observations in the infrared domain. We expect this experiment to have implications for both the thermal survey of active volcanoes on Earth, but also for the thermal mapping of planetary surfaces of the solar system. I visited ERI in January and it's a pleasure to be back again. During my stay here, I am mainly working with Kei Kurita, and other members of ERI involved in the thermal survey (Prof. Kaneko and Mie Ichihara) a! nd it is a great opportunity to work in this team. Thanks to the efforts of Kei Kurita, two of his students will come for a exchange in Toulouse, and one french PhD student is already here in Japan for 6 months, which will develop further our collaboration.
