Self Introduction

I am currently Senior Scientist (Directeur de Recherche) within CNRS and head of the Geomagnetism Group at the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris (France).

My research mainly focuses on the investigation of the main field produced within the Earth’s core, and deals with the issue of converting all types of data (satellite, historical, archeomagnetic, and paleomagnetic data) into information about the past and present behavior of the main field, which I then interpret in terms of core dynamical processes. This approach has led me to work on many different issues, such as potential theory, deterministic and statistical geomagnetic field modeling and interpretation, core surface flow modeling and interpretation, length of day variation investigation, and more recently, dynamo simulations, with special emphasis on dynamos predictability. It also led me to propose and work on many satellite projects, most notably the recently launched ESA Swarm project (launched on November 22, 2013), the French contribution of which I lead as PI of the ASM instrument and one of the three international co-proposers and PI of the mission. Most of my scientific contributions have been done through stimulating national and international collaborations. I also take an active role in teaching and promoting French and International Science through various national and international committees, as well as meeting organization, most recently as Chairman of the SEDI commission of IUGG (2007-2011) and Chairman of Division I of IAGA (since 2011).

My visit to ERI, to collaborate with Hisayoshi Shimizu, is also directly related to both my current role in the Swarm mission, and my past role as SEDI Chairman, since the 2014 SEDI meeting will take place close-by (in Kanagawa) during my stay. Please feel free to get in touch with me. I would be delighted to get you interested in Swarm and Geomagnetism!
