- "U-Pb dating of zircons in gneisses from the Mt.Riiser-Larsen
area, Napier Complex, East Antarctica"
- Abstract
- The Napier Complex, East Antarctica, is characterized by
ultrahigh-temperature (UHT) metamorphism. To reveal the thermal
history of UHT metamorphism from zircons in felsic gneisses from
Mt.Riiser-Larsen area in the Napier Complex, dating by the
chemical Th-U total-Pb isochron method (CHIME) and a laser
ablation-inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer (LA/ICP-MS).
Firstly, I developed analytical procedure of CHIME method using an
Electron Probe Micro Analyzer (EPMA) in Yamagata University. CHIME
ages of zircons from Mt.Riiser-Larsen samples were reported by
Hokada (1999), Hokada et al. (2004) and Suzuki (2000). These ages
corresponded with the CHIME age based on our analytical
conditions. It is supposed that our analytical procedure for CHIME
method was a reasonable suggestion. Secondary, I measured CHIME
ages and U-Pb ages by LA/ICP-MS from zircons in felsic gneisses
from Mt. Riiser-Larsen. Zircons which are seem to be affected by
metamorphic crystallization yields 2.36-2.46 Ga. Further, ages of
metamorphic domain within the zircon grain from
osumilite-garnet-orthopyroxene bearing paragneiss was also ca.2.35
Ga and zircon in garnet felsic gneisses was ca.2.42 Ga. On the
other hand, protolith (origin rocks) ages were obtained by
osumilite-garnet-orthopyroxene bearing pragneiss. Both U-Pb age by
LA/ICP-MS and CHIME age were ca. 2.78 Ga.
