Computational earth science integrates earth science and computational science with the aim of utilizing observational data through high-performance computing. Unstructured finite-element methods are suitable for modeling solid earth science problems with complex geometry and material nonlinearity; however, these methods are not straightforward to attain high performance on current computer hardware. In this seminar, I will explain about our high-performance finite-element solvers developed for Oakforest-PACS of the University of Tokyo and the K computer of RIKEN, and show some crust deformation and earthquake ground motion analysis examples. I will also explain about our fast finite-element mesh generator necessary for conducting large scale finite-element simulations. By fast and accurate modeling of geometry and material properties using these methods, we expect improvement of crust and ground structure models through many cases of trials and comparison with observational data.
