The 2000 eruption

at Usu Volcano

New On March 31, 2000, Usu Volcano erupted after 22 years of dormancy. The style is characterized by phreatic (phreatomagmatic?) eruption. So far, most volcanologists think the magma will go up slowly (for sevaral months) and erupts as a lava dome (or criptdome) on the west flank of Mt. Usu.

Here we report ash composition analized on the basis of XRF method.
