{"id":2431,"date":"2019-05-31T17:23:57","date_gmt":"2019-05-31T08:23:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.eri.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/en\/?p=2431"},"modified":"2019-05-31T17:28:05","modified_gmt":"2019-05-31T08:28:05","slug":"associate-prof-kiwamu-nishida-recieves-nishida-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eri.u-tokyo.ac.jp\/en\/award\/2431\/","title":{"rendered":"Associate Prof. Kiwamu Nishida recieved Nishida Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Associate Prof. Kiwamu Nishida recieved &#8220;Nishida Prize&#8221; from Japan Geoscience Union.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Commendation<\/strong>: Research on Earth\u2019s background free oscillations<br \/>\n<strong>Major achievements<\/strong>: Since the late 1990s, Dr. Kiwamu Nishida has been leading the development of the \u201cEarth\u2019s background free oscillation\u201d which is a Earth\u2019s free oscillation without quaking.<br \/>\nThe main results can be summarized in the following three points.<br \/>\n(1) It was clarified that background free oscillation occurs in both spheroidal and toroidal modes.<br \/>\n(2) In the frequency band higher than 5 mHz, the free oscillations aregenerated by topographic coupling between the ocean infragravity wave and the seismic waves on the seafloor, and in the lower frequency band, the atmospheric pressure disturbance also contributes the excitations.<br \/>\n(3) He developed a method to estimate the three-dimensional internal seismic velocity structure by applying the seismic interferometry to the background free oscillation data.
