| Title: | Active Faulting and Earthquakes in Eastern Iran |
| Coordinator: | Ataru SAKUBARA |
| Abstract: | |
|
Iran is one of the most seismically active countries on Earth and has suffered from many destructive earthquakes throughout its history. But very little is known about the slip-rates - and hence the average interval between earthquakes - on the major faults. I will describe our attempts to measure the late Quaternary slip-rate on several of the major faults of eastern Iran by dating alluvial fans, river terraces, and lake-bed sediments displaced by faulting. |
