Self Introduction
I am a Professor at the University of Miami, Florida. In my research I
am using Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) to study active
volcanoes and other geophysical phenomena. With my students I have been
largely working on Indonesian volcanoes and oceanic island volcanoes (Hawaii
and Galapagos). While in Japan I hope to start research projects on Japanese
volcanoes. Other current research topics include magma ascent through the
crust, tsunamis, and pushing the limits of the InSAR technology with the
aim of resolving subtle mm/yr tectonic deformation. I am also interested
in climate change problems. We use InSAR measurements of glacial rebound
to estimate how fast the Arctic ice sheets are melting. Please stop by
for a chat in room 415 in bldg 2.
