Self Introduction
What a pleasure being back in ERI as a visiting scientist after a long while. In 2006 I finished my doctorate course in Ocean Hemisphere Research Center, and started working in Potsdam the same year. Ever since, I have studied in Germany, so I am now feeling back home finally. Academic activities again in ERI bring me back my old beautiful (and bitter...) memories. It is just so fun! All supports by ERI colleagues and, especially, those letting me have this lovely opportunity are cordially appreciated. My research field has not changed since the former ERI days - global geomagnetism. Funded in the framework of Priority Programme “Planetary Magnetism” by German Research Foundation, a project in my charge is currently underway for studying the subdecadal core-mantle dynamics. Taking advantage of being at GFZ where the CHAMP satellite mission was in operation until recently, I apply the high-precision satellite core magnetic field model GRIMM to inverse modelling of the outer core fluid flow evolving in time. I am particularly interested in exploiting magnetic observations to reveal the decadal/subdecadal dynamics and energetics of the Earth’s core-mantle system. I develop methods to get core flow models constrained further by the theory of rotating fluid dynamics, such that they not only account for satellite magnetic models but are theoretically sensible as well. My task during the stay at ERI is comparing the latest satellite magnetic field model GRIMM3 and records at the Ocean Hemisphere Project magnetic stations in the Western Pacific, where the INTERMAGNET observatories are nearly absent.
