Self Introduction
I am a postdoctoral researcher and I have just completed a postdoc at Massey University, New Zealand, investigating the relationship between effusive and explosive volcanism at Ulleung Island (Republic of Korea). At Massey University I also did my PhD on the geological evolution of Jeju Island (also in Korea).
My interests cover many aspects of igneous petrology and volcanology, with the aim of better understanding volcanic behaviour and hence forecast the related hazards. The knowledge that I gained through my previous studies of volcanic systems surrounding the Sea of Japan has led me to apply for a research visit at ERI. The availability of resource at the Earthquake Research Institute and the expertise of Professor Nakada for research in igneous petrology will give me the opportunity to investigate and understand another magmatic system in the same region.
I will do my field investigation at Oki Dozen, in southwestern Japan, where the magmatic system was active until about 3 million years ago. The long period of quiescence and erosion has exposed intrusive rocks belonging to the magmatic system that fed the volcanism. I will study the geochemical and petrological relationship between intrusive and extrusive rocks to better understand magma storage and ascend dynamics.
