Self Introduction

My research interest is focus on understanding the fundamental properties of deep non-volcanic tremor. Non-volcanic tremor is the seismic phenomena with low amplitude, long-duration, and no clear arrival of P- and S-wave. Tremor is located at the transient zone right below the seismogenic zone and is often associated with slow slip events. A better understanding tremor and slow slip characteristic can help seismologists to study the interaction between tremor, slow slip events, and earthquakes. In the past few years, I have been studying tremor triggered by teleismic earthquakes in many regions, including Taiwan, California, New Zealand, Japan, Aleutian Arc and Alaska, Cascadia, Caribbean, and south Chile. I have also observed ambient tremor in Taiwan and study the interaction between tremor activity and local earthquakes.

For my research plan in ERI, I will develop a new tremor detecting and locating technique that combines the advantage from different algorithms in order to construct another accurate tremor catalog in Nankai subduction zone. In addition, I will quantify the relationship between tremor, slow slip, and near by earthquakes in Nankai. Finally, I will apply the same technique to other tectonic regions around the world and study the general principle of stress transform between slow and regular earthquakes.
