Naoshi HIRATA |
I am thankful to the offer of Professor Hirata to visit the ERI and am happy to be spending some time here working with my Japanese colleagues. I am a Senior Scientist at GNS Science in Wellington, New Zealand; GNS Science is a New Zealand government owned research organisation specialising in earth sciences. My primary areas of intersest are earthquake statistics and probabilistic methods where I work with short-term earthquake forecasting methods, the New Zealand National Seismic Hazard model, and I am particularly intersted in the importance of testing such models and am an active particpant in CSEP. On a very different topic, I spend a large part of my time working in risk assessment for Carbon Capture and Storage. While at the ERI I will focussed on two topics. First I will be optimising the STEP aftershock model for Japan so that it can be installed in the Japan CSEP testing centre. Next we will be setting up tests of the Japanese national seismic hazard model. We will compare the model to instrumental data from the last decades so that we can gain some insight into the behaviour of the model.
