Self Introduction
I am Professor of Seismology at the University of Bristol, which is located in the southwest of England. My research interests include the study of the Earth's deep interior, wave propagation in anisotropic media, and passive seismic monitoring of CO2 sequestration, mining and hydrocarbon production. I grew up in Canada and received my PhD from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. This was followed by postdoctoral research in the USA at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where I studied the lowermost mantle and mid-ocean ridges. After a brief stint as Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto, I moved to the UK, initially to the University of Leeds and then on to Bristol. I am currently involved in large seismic experiments to study Archean cratons in northern Canada and continental rifting in Ethiopia. This is my first visit to ERI and I am looking forward to meeting people, establishing new research collaborations and indulging in Japanese food.
