Hello, I am Kuyuk (クユク), an Assistant Professor of Earthquake Engineering at Sakarya University, Turkey.
First of all, due to the 3/11 Tohoku Earthquake, we have faced during my stay at ERI, Tokyo, I would like to express of my sympathy and condolences for all Japanese affected by the event and its nuclear consequences in Fukushima. Living in Sendai 3 years, during my PhD at Tohoku University, I am deeply sorry about my friends and colleagues particularly people living in near coastline, east of Sendai.
I am very grateful to collaborate with my host Prof. Kazuki Koketsu and his research group, Dr. Miyake and Dr. Si. At ERI, we focus on upgrading ground motion attenuation relationships by refining the site effect. It is a fact that strong ground motion is strongly controlled by the near-surface shear-wave velocity structure at any site; however this effect is complicated by a number of other effects such as deep geological structure and nonlinear effect of the basin. I am studying correlation of Vs30 and site effect through strong ground motion K-net stations. My investigation covers empirical site correction and analysis of their correlation in ground motion attenuation relationships and probabilistic seismic hazard studies of Japan.
