Self-Introduction

I am currently a senior researcher at CNRS and work at Ecole Normale Supérieure of Paris in the Physics Department. My research activities concern instabilities and non linear physics. This includes for instance the dynamo instability, i.e. the generation of magnetic field by the flow of an electrically conducting fluid. Among with colleagues in France, we were the first to observe this effect experimentally in a fully turbulent flow of liquid sodium. We also observed that the generated magnetic field reverses in an apparently random manner, similar to what is observed for the Earth magnetic field. Modelling the observed processes led to the understanding of a new mechanism that explains the random reversals of magnetic field both for the Earth and for the experimental dynamo. In the past years, I have worked on the effects of periodic modulations on earthquake properties. Our approach relies on theoretical models over which we investigate the effects of seasonal or tidal loading. During my visit to ERI, I plan to continue this project and in particular I would like to compare with datas the predictions obtained from the theoretical models.
