My research field extends across physical volcanology, and particularly on explosive volcanism. I am combining traditional field studies, laboratory activities, analog experiments and theoretical modeling. In particular, I am interested in understanding the large variability of explosive styles characterizing basaltic volcanic activity to better constrain the hazard associated to these volcanoes, which is often underestimated.
The aim of my current researches is to provide fundamental insights on the conduit flow to understand the effect of gas segregation on flow patterns and the vesicularity of magma with large-scale fluid dynamics experiments.
During my stay at ERI I am comparing some of my experimental results with geophysical signals recorded at active lava lakes, in collaboration with Prof. Ichihara. I am based in room 520, please come look for me if you want have a chat; I would be very happy to interact with ERI scientists from different divisions.
