Self Introduction
My research interests span a range of problems associated with the physics of earthquakes.
Current research is focused on the interplay of geometrical features of fault systems,
and how earthquake dynamics interacts with these geometries and faults systems.
Another set of problems concerns the distribution of slip with depth and along-strike,
and how these relate to scaling laws, which are used in seismic hazard estimates.
One issue arising from this concerns the question of deep slip in the 2011 M9 Tohoku event,
and the separation of sources of low frequency and high frequency motion.
I am eager to meet with earthquake researchers here in Japan,
and would very much appreciate it if anyone wants to set up an appointment
through email ( shaw@ldeo.columbia.edu )Â or stop by my office here:Â 1-610.
