Mie ICHIHARA |
I am a permanent researcher in Physics at the Ecole Normale Supˆmrieure of Lyon (France). I will stay at ERI until October 27th, for a collaboration project with Kurita-san and Ichihara-san. We are interested in experimental physics, applied to volcanology, and in particular, bubble rising and bursting dynamics in complex fluids, such as polymer, sugar syrups, or tomato ketchup!
I have a physics background, but I did a PhD in geophysics from 2000 to 2004, at IPGP (Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, France). Then I moved for a postdoc in Santiago, Chile. I fell in love with this country, and stayed one year and a half at the southern end of the world (see picture, I am the one on the right!). There I started to work on bubbles, and the application of experimental physics to volcanology. It was there also that I met Ichihara-san, and we started to think of a collaboration. I first visited Japan last year, for a month, and did a brief visit at ERI. This is my second time in Japan, this time for an official collaboration.
