Self Introduction
My research interests currently focus on three topics in earthquake
seismology: (rate-state-frictional) earthquake nucleation driven by
aseismic creep, earthquake triggering and clustering due to static and
dynamic stresses, and probabilistic earthquake forecasting within the
Collaboratory for the Study of Earthquake Predictability (CSEP). I am
very grateful to Professor Hirata and Dr. Nanjo for hosting my first
visit to ERI, and I look forward to a fruitful collaboration beginning
with my stay here. I hope to learn about the current state of the
Japanese CSEP experiments and, in particular, examine how the 2011 M9
Tohoku earthquake has influenced the results and what lessons can be
drawn for other CSEP experiments around the world. I am currently a Hess
Fellow at Princeton University after postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich
and a PhD from UCLA. My webpage contains more information (than you
might want): www.princeton.edu/~mwerner.
