2025 Inge Lehmann Medal

    @AGU (2025/12/17, New Orleans)

    It is my profound honor to receive the Inge Lehmann Medal. I thank Jean-Paul Montagner for the nomination and Barbara, Brian, and Steve for their support. My scientific career has been adventurous from the beginning. When I was at the University of Tokyo, seismology was actually the last option on my list, but being selected as an exchange student to Stanford University changed my life. There I joined a group studying global seismology and tectonics and met inspiring mentors. It was the dawn of global broadband seismology, and I became fascinated by the possibility of exploring the deep Earth using seismic methods. Since then, my work has ranged widelyˇ˝from subduction zones to ocean-bottom seismology, and from moment-tensor analysis to volcano seismology. Along the way, I have truly enjoyed all my adventures ˇČin the jungle of geophysics.ˇÉ I am grateful to all the collaborators, students, and staff who accompanied me on these scientific journeys. Finally, I thank my wife, Miki, for her loving support and everything.
