MUOGRAPHERS 2016: IM2N Symposium

The present symposium will address the progress that has been made since the preconference of the MUOGRAPHERS15 Assembly which took place on June 8, 2015 at the Embassy of Hungary in Tokyo and initiated the cooperation between the MTA WIGNER Research Centre for Physics in Hungary and the University of Tokyo in Japan. In the first session, Ms. Szonja Csuzdi, Head of the Department of International Affairs in the National Research, Development and Innovation Office of Hungary, Prof. Peter Levai, Director General of the MTA WIGNER Research Centre for Physics (Wigner RCP), and Prof. Hiroyuki Tanaka, Professor of High Energy Particle Geophysics of the University of Tokyo gave talks. In the second session, Prof. Peter Levai and Prof. Kazushige Obara signed an Agreement on Academic Exchange between the Wigner RCP and the University of Tokyo, and reached a mutual understanding regarding the promotion of bilateral cooperation applied toward the development of innovative solutions utilizing muography. In August 2016, a joint invention between the Wigner RCP and the University of Tokyo designated as a “Muography Observation Instrument” was succeeded and an intellectual property cooperation agreement was prepared based on this invention in order to facilitate the creation of new entrepreneurial industries both in Hungary and Japan. In the United States and Canada, several entrepreneurs have already established muography industries with remarkable achievements, winning several awards including the annual Innovation to Market award for revolutionary marketplace innovation and contribution to the region’s economic growth. Furthermore, a company based in the United States press-released on August 4, 2014 that they have been awarded a Toshiba contract for the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Complex Project. The aim of the upcoming symposium (May 9, 2016) and bilateral cooperation agreement is to foster the generation of a global platform for the establishment of world-wide muography industries.
