The "International Symposium on the Centennial of the 1923 Kanto Earthquake" was held on October 23-24, 2023.
We are grateful to all the contributors of this symposium.
Participants: 248 people
General information
-
Date : October 23-24, 2023
Place: TAKEDA FRONTIER SCIENCE HALL, 5th Floor, Takeda Building, The University of Tokyo (with online streaming) , (map)
Language: English
Organized by Coordinating Committee of Earthquake and Volcanic Eruption Prediction Researches,
Earthquake Research Institute, The University of Tokyo
Co-organized by Earthquake Research Institute, The University of Tokyo
※ Registration fee is free but you must pre-register.
※ This symposium is for professionals and students but everybody that is interested in the topic is welcome.
Scope
-
100 years have passed since the 1923 Kanto earthquake struck the capital city of Japan. Many efforts have been made to understand
the nature of the earthquake, structure and environment of the source fault, slip deficit distribution along the plate boundary,
recurrence history and probability of future earthquakes and stress reloading to the fault. The study on similar near-city earthquakes
in the past and the assessment of such events in the future are also done in some places in the world. In this symposium,
we overview such efforts and discuss the future directions of earthquake study in Kanto and other urban areas.
News
- The schedule and program have been updated.
We have added "16:30-16:45 Discussion" on Day 1 of the program and "15:00-15:20 Discussion and concluding remarks" on Day 2 of the program, so please check them.
