Hi, my name is Aleksey Agashev. Me scientific interest is the study of all aspects of kimberlite magamtism, deeply originated rocks which is also a primary diamond deposits. One of interesting topics of the study is to identify the signals of different reservoirs, upper and lower mantle and earth core recorded in the chemical and isotopic composition of kimberlites. The composition of these rocks also provides an inside into deep mantle magma generation processes. Xenoliths taken by kimberlites en-route through the mantle give us an opportunity to study structure, composition and chemical evolution of lithospheric mantle up to 250 km deep below the surface.
I also involved in diamond exploration programs in Siberia and Canada, particularly in the development and application of mineralogical methods to locate kimberlite bodies and using minerals chemistry to evaluate the diamond potential.
Presently, being in ERI, together with my Japanese colleagues we will try to understand the chemical evolution of the lowermost layer of the lithospheric mantle using Sm-Nd and Lu-Hf isotope composition of peridotite xenoliths and kimberlites.
