It is common for engineers to use structural analysis software in modern day structural engineering practice, especially with the increasing use of unconventional building solutions, the need to consider complex dynamic loading and the greater accessibility of structural analysis software. As such, there is a need to evaluate the reliability of current modelling approaches and assumptions.

The December 2019 E-defense test of the 3-story building representative of a disaster management center presents an excellent opportunity to host a blind prediction competition. This contest is open to both research and practicing engineers internationally. Results from this contest will be used to evaluate which modelling approach/assumption may be more reliable than others, identify future research directions, and possibly lead to future international collaborations.
