Using the library

Opening hours
Monday-Friday 9:00-12:00 & 13:00-17:00
- Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, year-end and new-year holidays, and university-wide summer holidays
- ERI members can enter the library using fingerprint authentication at any time with access to the reading room, the first stack room, the map room, and the photocopying machine.
User registration
You may access the library using your Student ID card or Faculty ID card.
Researchers and other staff should fill out the "Application form to Pass to Library of the University of Tokyo" and bring it to the ERI Library service counter.
Please present your ERI ID card at the service counter.

Reading
No procedures are required to enter the reading room. This is an open‑stack area, please return materials to the shelf where you found them after use.
Borrowing
Materials may be borrowed with a Faculty IC card, a Student IC card, or a Library IC card.
ERI members may borrow an unlimited number of items.

If you wish to borrow books/journals outside of opening hours, please complete the application form and place it in the box located in front of the service counter.
Renewing
You may renew items before their due date. Renewal requests can be made via MyOPAC.
Log in to MyOPAC and click the “Extension” button under the “Status of Loan/Reservation” menu.
Overdue items and items reserved by other users cannot be renewed.
You may also request renewals for ERI library materials at the ERI library's service counter.

Returning
Please return items at the service counter.
During closing hours, please use the book drop located in front of the library entrance.
Materials you have borrowed, or materials delivered from other UTokyo libraries may be returned to the ERI Library.
※Please do not place materials requested from other universities in the book drop.
Reservation
By logging in to MyOPAC, you may reserve items that are currently on loan to another user.
You may also request materials held by other UTokyo libraries to be delivered to the ERI Library.
To make a reservation or delivery request, please log in to MyOPAC and click the “Reserve” button on the search results.

Photocopy
A photocopier is available in the map room for use by Faculty or Students ID card.
If materials might be damaged by a conventional photocopier—for example, items that have deteriorated—you may use the overhead book scanner.(limited to ERI members).
If you wish to use it, please inquire at the service counter.
Photocopying of library materials is permitted only in accordance with the Copyright Act of Japan.
Others
A heavy-duty stapler for thick binding, a electric paper cutter, and a thermal binding machine are available for use.(limited to ERI members).
Please request use of the electric paper cutter and the thermal binding machine at the service counter during opening hours.
Notes
- Please do not bring luggage into the library. Lockers for luggage (except valuables and writing materials) are available next to the service counter.
- Please do not open windows.
- Please be sure to turn off lights and air-conditioners as you leave the room.
- No food and drinks are allowed to be brought into the library.
Book and Document Delivery Service
MyOPAC
After logging in to MyOPAC, you can access a variety of online services, including:
- Checking the books you have on loan and renew due dates
- Reserving books or requesting delivery of books or copies
Authentication with either a UTokyo account or a Library account is required to access.
These services are free of charge to ERI members, with costs covered by the ERI Library.
