Introduction: I am a Professor of Structural and Earthquake Engineering at University of Canterbury in New Zealand, where I am also a Chartered Professional Engineer. I completed Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the Institute of Engineering, Nepal, in 1993. After a 3-year professional career in Nepal, I did Master of Structural Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand in 1997, and PhD from the University of Tokyo in 2000. Over the last 25 years, I have worked in different facets of structural and earthquake engineering, but my current research interests lie in Seismic performance and design of RC structures, and Seismic loss minimisation in buildings. During my short stay in ERI, I will work with Prof Kusunoki and Dr Trevor Yeow on research projects of mutual interests.
