Introduction: Reza Esfahani is a postdoctoral researcher at ISTerre, University of Grenoble Alpes. He earned his Ph.D. from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ). His current research focuses on the data-driven analysis of continuous seismograms to investigate the preparatory phase of earthquakes and temporal changes in subsurface materials.
Research Report:
During my stay at ERI, I collaborated with Prof. Kiwamu Nishida on ambient seismic noise monitoring. I worked on analyzing changes in material properties encoded in single-station seismic records. We applied machine learning techniques to extract independent sources from continuous seismic data, focusing on the Noto earthquake swarm. We also initiate a collaboration to explore 20 years of low-frequency seismic data related to secondary microseisms. Additionally, we worked on monitoring seismic precursors during the Blatten landslide in Switzerland, identifying a clear preparatory phase several days before the main collapse.

I had valuable discussions with Prof. Miroe Miyake, Prof. Naoki Uchida, and Prof. Yuji Itoh regarding my earthquake-related research. Additionally, I attended several seminars, which broadened my perspective on current developments in seismology. Finally, I would like to thank the ERI international office for their support and organization.
