Introduction: Dr. Tianhaozhe (Tian) Sun received his BSc from Tongji University in 2011 and PhD from the University of Victoria in 2017. He was a postdoc fellow at the Pennsylvania State University from 2017-2019. Tian became a Research Scientist at the Geological Survey of Canada – Pacific Division since November 2019. His research has been focused on subduction zone geodynamics. He uses numerical models to study how various geological and physical processes interact in governing fault slip behaviour, subduction forearc deformation and fluid flow, and large-scale lithospheric deformation over the earthquake cycle. He also collects and processes offshore and onshore geophysical data to constrain these models. Tian was an onboard participant of IODP Exp. 343 (JFAST) when he was a first-year graduate student.
