End-to-end earthquake simulation: from source to urban impact

Speaker: Jacobo Bielak
The major goal of this work is to implement physics-based analyses that correctly model the complete earthquake process, including the source, propagation path, site response, and the response of the built environment in the affected region, including inelastic soil behavior and the interaction between separate structures through the soil. I will illustrate the capabilities with a scenario earthquake in the Euroseistest region in Greece, and describe how we use the ground motion over an entire earthquake-prone region toward the simulation of urban earthquake impacts.
